Runaway
She ran around outside
Trying to chase her brother
They were home all alone
Home without their mother
She was baby-sitting her brother again
This happened every day
Their mother just left them all alone
No matter what the girl would say
She wanted to go be with her friends
She wanted to have some fun
But because her brother was very young
She was stuck with himin the sun
She really felt neglected
Like no one wanted her
And that's why she was left alone
With her little brother
No one loved her
Yes, it's true
All she had was her brother
Who barely said "I love you"
Her parents didn't want her
Her gramma was far away
Her friends were all at summer camp
Or had a job each day
"Why do I allow myself
To be treated in this way?"
And then one day she asked herself
"Why don't I run away?"
"I'll leave when my little brother
Leaves for his week-long camp.
I'll leave my parents a good-bye note
And put it by the lamp."
She packed a little every day
And in secret made her plan.
And on that day when her brother left,
She took her bag and ran.
But on that day when she ran
She really wasn't thinking.
For she ran and got hit by a truck
And her lifeline was sinking.
There's a moral to this story.
And I'm here to tell it to you.
Tell you close ones that you love them
Before this consumes them, too.
